The Chicago Bears have reportedly requested interviews with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for their head coaching vacancy, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero Monday (January 6) morning.

"Wasting no time: The #Bears have requested interviews with #Lions OC Ben Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn for their head coaching job, per sources," Pelissero wrote on his X account.

The reported interview requests came hours after the Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 31-9, to win the NFC North Division title -- with the Bears finishing in last place -- and secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Chicago was prohibited from interviewing coaches from other NFL teams prior to season's end.

The Bears fired former head coach Matt Eberflus on November 29, hours after poor time management decisions late in their Thanksgiving Day game loss to the Lions. Eberflus went 14-32 during three seasons in Chicago.

The Lions rank first in scoring offense (33.2 points per game) and second in total offense (409.5 yards per game), as well as seventh scoring defense (19.9 points allowed per game) among all 32 NFL teams in 2024. The Bears, who ranked last in total offense (284.6 yards per game) and 28th in scoring offense (18.2 points per game) also fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron midway through the season.

Glenn is also reportedly expected to receive interview requests from the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints' head coaching vacancies, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
